WATER/HYDRAULIC HOSE MAINTENANCE
Hydraulic hoses have a limited service life, which can be further reduced by a number of factors. The main factor is external damage. 80% of hose failures can be attributed to external physical damage caused by pulling, kinking, crushing, or abrasion of the hose. The most common type of abrasion is hoses rubbing against each other or against surrounding surfaces. To prevent these types of damage, wrap hydraulic hoses with JACK WRAP IT™ to protect them. Don’t wait until a failure occurs to protect these hoses.

Southdown’s Knoxville Cement Plant, after only six months of using American Hose Wrap as their abrasion protection, has seen significant savings. One piece of equipment, the 992 CAT loader, requires a transmission hose replacement every three months at a cost of $1000. To date, they have bypassed two replacements and their problem areas show no wear.

CHECK YOUR HOSES AND PROTECT THEM BEFORE ABRASION TAKES THEM OUT OF SERVICE
Clean abraded area. (Not accepted for use on hoses with a corroded or damaged braid.)
Look for abrasions from cuts and friction from hoses rubbing together or rubbing other areas of the machine. Forklifts are especially likely to develop abraded hoses.
Wrap hose with Jack Wrap It™. Cover with 8.5 mil PVC tape
A major equipment rental company tested American Hose Wrap for 3 years. Testing began with wrapping 2 hoses of a small breaker on a Bobcat. These hoses, under normal rental use, are replaced 3 times a year at an average cost of $900 per year (includes hose, service calls and fittings). After 3 years using Jack Wrap It™, no hoses have been replaced, saving at least $2700 on this one piece of equipment.
